Level of support

The VI teachers use the National Sensory Impairment Partnership (NatSIP) eligibility criteria to allocate a descriptor level to each child, based on the findings from the functional vision assessment.  NatSIP forms are used for visually impaired, multiple disabled visually impaired (MDVI) and multi-sensory impaired (MSI) children, to support the VI service in determining the level of support for an individual child to meet their particular needs, and how often the child is visited by the VI service.  If the child's needs should change, eg in transferring schools, or if the degree of visual impairment changes, then the level of support provided can be adapted to reflect the change.

The VI teachers are involved in requesting and/or contributing to the Education Health and Care Needs Assessment through the Central Beds SEND team.
