Access to Specialist Equipment

Following a non-clinical visual assessment by a Teacher for the Visually Impaired and/or an IT assessment by the VI Team Resource Officer/Technician, a recommendation is made for relevant equipment that would enhance the pupil's visual access to the curriculum.

This might be in the form of magnification software, Dolphin Supernova speech software, student camera and laptop, ViewTech and other equipment.  Touchtyping training is offered to those pupils for whom it is assessed to be required.

Large print books are produced by the VI team in N24 font size and in accordance with the pupil's needs in terms of layout, colour contrast (paper, font) and modification.  For a list of the books held in the large print library, please click here.  If you would like to borrow one of these books, please contact the VI administrator on 01525 306943.

Tactile and Braille books are produced and available from the VI team for educationally blind pupils working in Braille.  Braillers/Braillenotes are purchased by the VI team for loan to maintained schools.

Academies and voluntary-aided schools are expected to purchase and maintain any recommended equipment themselves.
